Army Declares 8 Suspects Wanted In Delta After Burying Slain Soldiers; No 2 Is Renowned

A total of eight suspects have been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army following the funeral of the 17 military personnel comprising of four officers, 13 soldiers, gruesomely murdered by some irate youths in Okuama community in Delta State during a peace mission on March 14, 2024.

The names and photographs of the suspects were made public by the Nigerian Army on Thursday morning.

One of the suspects, who is number 2 on the list, is a renowned professor in Delta State. His name is Prof. Ekpekpo Arthur.

They are declared wanted in connection to the death of the 17 soldiers.

The development comes after President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday attended the funeral of the 17 military personnel and conferred national honours on them.

While speaking at the event, the President revealed that the Federal Government will provide housing to each of the families of the fallen heroes anywhere they chose within the country.

He also awarded the children of the fallen heroes full educational scholarships to University level.

Furthermore, the President directed the payment of death benefits to the family members within 90 days.

The deceased were buried at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, on Wednesday, March 27th.

Their graves were dug side by side, following each other horizontally, and their coffins were covered with the colours of the Nigerian flag.

President’s Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga had confirmed that his principal would attend the slain soldiers’ funeral in Abuja.

The bodies of the slain soldiers, which arrived at about 2:30pm, were conveyed by the FCT Ambulance Emergency Services and other vehicles.

Top military officers from various services paid their last respect to the fallen heroes.

Family members and relatives of the deceased personnel as well as those of other military officers were also on ground to honour the fallen heroes.
