“You Are Insulting Late Deborah” – Nigerians Blast Atiku Over Condolence To Davido Following Son’s Death

A condolence message from the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to Afrobeats superstar, Davido who lost his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, is not sitting comfortable with many Nigerians.

On Twitter, myriad of commenters held the opinion that Atiku’s condolence is an insult to late Deborah Samuel, a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, lynched to death over alleged blasphemy.

@Joe-nwodo, who slammed Atiku for deleting his condolence message to the family of late Deborah Samuel as at the time she was murdered, wrote: “Until you condole with the family of Deborah, on whose corpse you played dirty politics, any other condolence is pretence.”

@adawa-bala wrote: “Sir! Your insensitivity is too much! This is an insult to late Deborah, it’s very obvious already that you’re a religious bigot.”

Atiku’s condolence message read: “My thoughts and prayers are with Davido and Chioma and the Adeleke family at this time. I pray for God to strengthen and comfort them. -AA”

On the other hand, Shehu Sani, former Senator from Kaduna central sympathized with the singer’s family on Twitter saying: “The death of the Son of Davido, Ifeanyi is tragic.All parents will share this painful loss and take lessons out of it. May the Lord gives the parents of Ifeanyi the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Meanwhile, emotions are still high over the toddler’s death.

Reports say the innocent boy drowned today inside the family’s swimming pool in Lagos State and could not be revived because he had been underwater for a very long time.

“He was immediately pulled out and rushed to Evercare hospital in the state where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” reports confirm.

Sequel to this, a good number of celebrities among other well meaning Nigerians have posted comforting messages on their platforms.

Police Interfere

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday revealed that it has eight domestic workers of Davido in custody.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development to The PUNCH, added that the domestic workers were brought in for questioning in connection with the death as it will assist the command in ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the death of the three-year-old boy.

Hundeyin said, “His (Ifeanyi’s) death is confirmed. His (Davido’s) domestic workers have been brought in for questioning and anybody found not culpable will be allowed to go immediately.

“About eight of them were brought in to narrate their version of what happened to assist us in getting what really happened.

“At the end of their narrations, whoever that is found not guilty of negligence or not culpable in anyway will be allowed to go.

“Anybody found culpable will stay back to assist us in further investigation. The domestic workers are about eight that were brought in.”

Sequel to this, an emotional video showing the moment club goers played Davido’s hit track ‘Stand Strong’ without the instrumentals as they pause their doings to show solidarity with the singer has continued to trend.
