Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber, the House of Representatives, has come under fire from Nigerians who slam his viral classroom pictures.
Gbajabiamila, who left Nigeria to Harvard University in the United States, for a leadership course, shared photos of himself in a classroom on Tuesday: a day when the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is holding protests across the nation in solidarity with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).
Captioning the photos, the lawmaker wrote: “Back to class. In a leadership course at #Harvard #Kennedy_School. Forget the number of grey hairs one is never too old to learn, broaden or sharpen your skills.”
Worth mentioning, ASUU has been on strike for over five months.

@Dan Okonkwo wrote: “He is still the Hon Speaker. He leaves his sensitive job for school abroad. The job waits for him for as long as he schools abroad. Welcome to Nigeria where you can do anything and go free as long as you’re in government.”
@Aminu: “The first and last sign of a failed nation is that; while protest is ongoing about the incessant strike the president jet out for tourism and his speaker is also outside to study.”
@Chika Chika: “This APC government is very insensitive to the issues concerning Nigerians. Even if he went to Harvard, must he display it to spite Nigerians whose wards in her own universities are at home due to strike…worse aspect is that he chose to display the pictures on the day of a nationwide protest! It smarks the highest level of arrogance and impunity …similar to the Muslim Muslim ticket!”
