President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday attended the funeral of the 17 military personnel comprising of four officers, 13 soldiers, gruesomely murdered by some irate youths in Okuama community in Delta State during a peace mission on March 14, 2024.
While speaking at the event, the President revealed that the Federal Government will provide housing to each of the families of the fallen heroes anywhere they chose within the country.
He also awarded the children of the fallen heroes full educational scholarships to University level.
Furthermore, the President directed the payment of death benefits to the family members within 90 days.
The deceased were buried at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, on Wednesday, March 27th.
Their graves were dug side by side, following each other horizontally, and their coffins were covered with the colours of the Nigerian flag.
President’s Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga had confirmed that his principal would attend the slain soldiers’ funeral in Abuja.
Onanuga stated this on Wednesday in a short statement issued on X, claiming that it would be the first time in 10 years that a Nigerian President would pay such homage to soldiers who died in service.
The bodies of the slain soldiers, which arrived at about 2:30pm, were conveyed by the FCT Ambulance Emergency Services and other vehicles.
