A video showing an unbalanced truck in motion leaning sideways along Sawmill Dopemu highway in Lagos State before eventually collapsing has got people calling our President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government in reaction to yesterday’s tragic incident at Ojuelegba.
Just a day ago, an articulated truck conveying a 20ft container fell on a commercial bus at Ojuelegba, Lagos, on Sunday, killing nine persons.
Today, Monday, 30th January, a similar incident was avoided as commuters and motorists steered clear from the embattled truck.
Sharing a video from the scene, a Twitter commenter, @Eniboy wrote: “Just this morning look at this container leaning along Sawmill Dopemu, looking for who to kill just after yesterday’s tragedy where nine people including children were crushed at Ojuelegba. It’s clearly caused by govt failure to enforce its law that bars trucks from 6am to 9pm.”

Reacting to the video, Nigerians pointed fingers of blame on the the country’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its alleged inaction towards safeguarding the roads for citizens.
@Sussvirtual said: “If there was traffic on that road this morning, would have been another round of wailing over lives. Some people just wake up in the morning with a resolve to cut the lives of people.”
@Abidoye: “You will pretend that you didn’t see this again. Our government needs to be responsible and accountable. Shameful.”
@Derek: “Nigerians and manage! We will manage the government. We will manage the economy, the driver is like I will manage the truck, see the end results. I can’t manage o. I was born a prince!! I need to start taking my throne by force.”
@Chris: “That driver suppose to be arrested and detained. He suppose to have stop the truck when it started to give signs but they are always high before driving. God have mercy on us.”
Sunday’s drastic incident has continued to stir mixed reactions in the country.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the truck lost control while ascending a bridge.
“Upon arrival at the scene, a truck conveying a 20ft container was found to have landed on top of a commercial bus.
“Investigation revealed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.
“A total of nine fatalities were recovered, comprising four adult males, three adult females, a girl, and a boy.
“After suspending the container load with the aid of LASEMA’s forklift, an adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma centre,’’ he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA’s heavy-duty ambulance and Lagos State Fire Service were on hand for rescue operation, just as LASTMA and Nigeria Police were on ground to control traffic.
